Sauk Valley Community College is committed to providing supportive services to students who are experiencing housing insecurity or homelessness.

Homelessness can happen to people of all socio-economic statuses, ages, genders and educational levels. Being homeless doesn't just mean not having a roof over your head. Living in a car, a motel, a shelter, or a building not meant as housing are all forms of homelesssness. 鈥淐ouch surfing鈥� with friends or being doubled up with relatives in a temporary living situation can also be experiences of homelessness.

Attending college while paying for living expenses can be a tremendous challenge. Homeless students are often working and may also receive Financial Aid. In today's world, Financial Aid is generally insufficient to cover living expenses for self supporting students. A lack of sufficient reliable income along with a lack of available affordable housing can put college students at high risk for homelessness.
