Sauk Valley Community College is committed to providing supportive services to students who are experiencing housing insecurity or homelessness.

Homelessness can happen to people of all socio-economic statuses, ages, genders and educational levels. Being homeless doesn't just mean not having a roof over your head. Living in a car, a motel, a shelter, or a building not meant as housing are all forms of homelesssness. 鈥淐ouch surfing鈥 with friends or being doubled up with relatives in a temporary living situation can also be experiences of homelessness.

Attending college while paying for living expenses can be a tremendous challenge. Homeless students are often working and may also receive Financial Aid. In today's world, Financial Aid is generally insufficient to cover living expenses for self supporting students. A lack of sufficient reliable income along with a lack of available affordable housing can put college students at high risk for homelessness.

The Sauk Housing and Homelessness center was created to benefit our students as well as meet the requirements of Public Act 102-0083 to officially designate a Homelessness Liaison to assist students experiencing housing insecurities.
