Summer 2026 Enrichment Classes

College for Kids provides fun, informative classes to students entering 3rd through 8th grades. We are seeking instructors to offer enrichment classes during the fall semester. If you are interested and/or have questions, please contact Brenda Helms at (815) 835-6212.

Mixed Media Art Adventure

Class ID: 2230 | 4 sessions, Monday, June 22 - Thursday, June 25, 9:00 - 10:30 AM

Get creative with paint, collage, drawing, and more! In this hands-on class, students will explore different art materials and techniques to create unique, one-of-a-kind projects. Perfect for young artists of all skill levels. Supplies included. (Ages 8-14)

Lights, Camera鈥mprov! Drama Games & Creative Acting

Get ready to act, laugh, and create! In this fun, interactive class, students will explore theater through exciting drama games, improvisation, and storytelling. Build confidence, teamwork, and communication skills while trying activities like mirror acting, silly improv, and mini-performances. No experience needed; just bring your imagination! (Ages 8-14)

Science Fun with Kitchen Chemistry

Explore the wonders of science using everyday kitchen items! In this hands-on class, students will learn about the properties of matter and how it changes form. Through tasty experiments and interactive activities, we鈥檒l investigate acids and bases, observe chemical reactions, and discover how science is all around us, even in the kitchen! (Ages 8-14)

Kids Cooking 101

Get ready for a fun and hands-on activity where young chefs learn kitchen basics! Students will build essential cooking skills as they practice measuring ingredients, reading and following simple recipes, and creating tasty snacks. Join us and learn how fun cooking can be! Fiber Arts Fun

Students will explore the creative world of fiber arts through fun, hands-on projects! Students will be introduced to a variety of beginner-friendly techniques such as weaving, hand sewing, yarn projects and other textile art activities while creating unique projects to take home. No experience is necessary. Supplies included. (Ages 8-14)

Make Your First 3D Video Game!

Class ID: 2196 | 4 sessions, M-TH (Jun 22-25), 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

In this Black Rocket classic, you will go well beyond the limitations of the traditional 2D game design classes and create an immersive 3D world. Students will learn the physics behind 3D games, explore beginner event scripting, level design, controlling the flow of gameplay, and storytelling. Student projects will be available on a password-protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Projects are only compatible with Windows devices. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. (Ages 8-10)

Youth Food Service Sanitation

Class ID: 2228 | 2 sessions, Wednesday, July 15 & Thursday, July 16, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Are you ready to level up your food safety skills and earn a nationally recognized certification? This class is designed specifically for teens interested in starting their own culinary business, food service careers, boosting their resumes, and college applications or leadership roles. Students will learn food safety principles, proper food handling and sanitation, prevention of foodborne illness, and leadership in food service environments. Students are encouraged to bring a lunch. The registration deadline is July 8. (Ages 14-18)
