Presented by: Dr. David Hellmich and Dr. Jon Mandrell Presentation: As part of continued efforts to respond to industry needs, the College has worked with area industry members to provide new certificate offerings, which are extensions of current degree offerings at ̽ѡ. These newly proposed certificates are in Entrepreneurship, Robotic Welding, and Machining. A new Entrepreneurship Principles course was created in the Fall of 2016 as part of College small business development efforts and will be added to the Business Program course offerings. The course will be provided online to provide flexibility to area small business managers and entrepreneurs. An additional 24-26 credit hours in business, accounting, and management are part of a newly proposed Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management Certificate, which is a subset of the Management AAS degree. In 2015, the College purchased a robotic welder and created a new course, Robotic Welding. Robotic welding is a new practice among manufacturers, and the course has been added to the Welding curriculum. The Robotic Welding course, along with Fundamentals of Welding (WLD 106) or MIG Welding (WLD 103), will provide a valuable credential and is proposed as a new certificate offering beginning in Fall 2017. Local manufacturers also recommended the College assist them in training the next generation of machining professionals. The creation of a Manufacturing Processes course and the reactivation of Computer-Numerically Controlled (CNC) courses have provided the College the opportunity to provide a 24 credit-hour Machining Certificate. These courses will be added to the curriculum at Whiteside Area Career Center in an effort to expand the dual-credit offerings in Multicraft Technology and Welding.
