This position was advertised on-line on the Colleges website, in Sauk Valley Media (the Dixon Telegraph and the Daily Gazette), the Quad Cities Times, the DeKalb Chronicle, and the Rockford Register Star. Six (6) applications were received, and three (3) candidates were interviewed. A committee was composed of Ms. Sharri Miller, Dr. Steve Nunez, Ms. Dana Chacon, Dr. Amy Jakobsen, Mr. Robert Sondgeroth (Foundation Board President), Ms. Rebekah Emery (Foundation Board Treasurer), and Ms. Lisa Steinke (Foundation Board member). Dr. David Hellmich, President, served as chair. Academic background: Dr. Lori Cortez is a graduate of Central Michigan University with a doctorate degree in higher education and a master of arts degree and a bachelor of arts degree in history. Professional background: Lori has been the Student Support Services Director (TRIO Grant) for Sauk Valley Community College since 2014. She is currently employed at Mid Michigan Community College as an adjunct and was previously employed at Mid Michigan Community College as the Title III Grant Coordinator. Lori brings a strong background in grants and, in the words of one of her references, is "an expert at building relationships and forming teams. She has a winning personality that just connects with others due to her honesty and strong moral fiber."
